Are You Poo#ing Enough?

It’s not lady like to talk about bathroom habits but it turns out that most ladies are not doing it right, so we're going to talk about it.

Going less than 1x every 3 days is considered constipation. And that can be dangerous. Bowel movements are your body’s way of getting rid of waste and toxins. I have always found it interesting that my brothers and male coworkers would go every day, like clockwork. What I found working with women is that we do not make the time every day to fulfill this function. It’s normal to see a man walk into a bathroom with a magazine or a newspaper and be MIA for an hour. But women do not, or cannot, afford that kind of time. We tend to be multitaskers and attempt to take care of everyone but ourselves. This selflessness or inability to sit and relax can have serious effects on our health. Shall I name a few? Colon cancer, ineffectiveness of some medications, and stress (which can negatively affect your immune system, making you feel crappy.) You see what I did there?

The daily recommendation for fiber is 30-38 grams for men and 21-25 grams for women. That being said; there are approximately 4 grams of fiber in a medium size apple, 3 grams in a handful of almonds, and about 13 grams in an avocado. Did you do the math? You have to eat nearly 6 apples, or 8 handfuls of almonds, or 2 avocados to reach your daily recommended fiber.

Water is another ingredient to regular and healthy bathroom visits. I tell my clients at least 2 liters of water per day. And if you drink anything other than water then drink more to make up for it. Tea, coffee, juice, and soda are not water and do not benefit your body the way plain old water does.

The other component is practice; Practice sitting down at the same time every day, sit for at least 20 minutes. If you are not used to using the bathroom daily then you will have to retrain your body. You will have to teach it to relax and allow the work to be done. It will seem like a waste of time, you have plenty of other things to do, but the benefit to your health will be worth it.

If nothing else, think of it from a vanity standpoint. A flat stomach is obtained through proper nutrition, high fiber diets, and no bloat. So if you don’t want to take the time to sit for your insides then do it for your outside... Bathing suit season is heading our way.
